The Kinect motion tracking system for the Xbox 360 home gaming console has been launched in November of last year and so far sales of the new device have managed to be better than the most optimistic expectations from Microsoft.

And now the company seems to be prepared to push the new device even further, with Eurogamer quoting sources inside the video game oriented part of the company as saying that 10 new titles, none of them sequels, will be announced at the E3 trade show, with launch dates set for the rest of the year.

A source is quoted as saying that the concepts and themes behind the new Kinect-powered games “won't be obvious.”

Another developer has stated that the new titles will need to “serve the hardcore,” a segment of the gaming public that seems to have not yet embraced the Kinect experience.

Rare, which has already worked on the device with Kinect Sports, is set to announce a sequel which expands on the concept and an all-new title, although it will apparently not use any of the well-known characters the developers has already created.

Harmonix, which has been keeping quiet lately about its future projects, is also set to announce a new game in the Dance Central series.

Microsoft has announced plans to triple the number of video games that use Kinect before the end of 2011.

Other rumors include a racing game called Forza World, which is being created by Playground Games, and a Star Wars lightsaber combat game which is being worked on by Terminal Reality.

Another Microsoft-owned studio is said to be working on a Kinect title that is aimed at a younger audience.

As usual, Microsoft has said it “does not comment on rumor and speculation” when the rumors appeared.
