Samsung, one of the globe's largest companies and the world's second largest handset manufacturer, (after Nokia), announced having sold more than 1,000,000 units of its U900 Soul mobile phone. This impressive number comes after less than two months, as the U900 was released at the end of April across Europe.

According to Telecoms Korea, the European country where most of the Souls have been sold is the UK. In the first two weeks of availability, there were no less than 80,000 British users who bought the handset, and until now the total UK sales have passed the 280,000 mark.

Germany is another country where Samsung's U900 proved to be a great success. Marketed with the help of Michael Ballack, the famous German footballer who currently plays for Chelsea-London, the sales of Soul have topped 150,000 units.

The high sales from the UK and Germany, added to the ones from the other countries where U900 Souls is currently available, have allowed the Samsung phone to be among the best-selling handsets in the last months.

Announced by Samsung back in February, during MWC 2008, U900 is the first from the South Korean's company line-up of Soul handsets, which now also includes the G400 clamshell and the U800 Soul B candybar.

At only 12.9 millimeters in thickness and 112 grams, Samsung U900 Soul is a slider that has nice overall design and a set of features which make it a high-end device. The phone brings, among other things, a Magical Touch navigation pad, a 2.2 inch screen with 16 million colors and 240 x 320 pixels, a 5 Megapixel camera with auto focus, Web and Multimedia capabilities and so on - all these at a retail price of about 400 Euros (or $620).

Samsung will soon release the U900 in its home country (South Korea) as well as in China and other Asian markets, where the fashionable slider will probably continue to sell in lots of units.
