Although previous rumors claimed Huawei P9 might be the world's first smartphone to pack 6GB RAM, it looks like the Chinese company hasn't yet introduced the flagship, and judging by the latest hearsay, the device won't include such a high amount of memory after all.

However, another Chinese OEM, Vivo, is determined to take the crown for the world's first smartphone to include 6GB of RAM. The Xplay 5 is Vivo's flagship smartphone, and the company confirmed it would be unveiled on March 1.

Until then, Vivo published a handful of teasers that point to some of the most important specs under the Xplay 5's hood. While this isn't the first time we hear the Xplay 5 will feature 6GB of RAM, it's the first time that the information is confirmed by Vivo.

The new teaser published recently by Vivo clearly suggests the Xplay will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, coupled with no less than 6GB of RAM.

If no other smartphone with 6GB RAM is announced by the end of this month, then Vivo Xplay 5 will become the world's first handset to pack such a high amount of memory.

Dual-edge Quad HD display has been tipped too

Aside from the powerful hardware configuration, we also know the Xplay 5 will come with a dual-edge display that will probably support Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution.

The rest of the phone's specs are a mystery, but rumors claim the Xplay 5 will boast a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, an 8-megapixel camera in the front, and a massive 4,300 mAh battery.

Unfortunately, we doubt that Vivo will make the Xplay 5 available outside China, but there might be some retailers in the Mainland that will offer the smartphone soon after it hits shelves.

Also, there's no word on price yet, so we can only wait for Vivo to announce more details about the Xplay 5 flagship smartphone on March 1.
