Microsoft getting ready to roll out the upgrade

Microsoft is expected to begin the Windows 10 Mobile rollout anytime soon, but Microsoft still prefers to remain tight-lipped on this and refuses to share any details until the upgrade becomes available.

And yet, a photo published by @tfwboredom on Twitter suggests that the version of Windows 10 Mobile that could be shipped to Windows Phone users is 10586.63.

This means that, in addition to Windows Phone devices getting the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, new models such as the Lumia 950 and 950 XL will also be updated to this version, as they are currently running 10586.36.

Keep in mind, however, that Microsoft hasn’t yet confirmed this, but it’s believed that the rollout could begin in the coming days, possibly next week, for a bunch of handsets.

Release taking place in stages

The release will take place in stages, so only a handful of phone models will receive the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile at first. T-Mobile Germany has recently published a list disclosing the devices to be upgraded to the new OS, revealing that Lumia 535, Lumia 635, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 830 and Lumia 930 are among them.

This means that the remaining Windows Phone models could be included in the second wave of upgrades, which could follow in February. Former flagship devices, such as the Lumia 1520, could thus miss the first upgrade round and only get the new operating system at a later date.

Microsoft is now working to get a new build of Windows 10 Mobile ready for insiders, but it’s not yet clear whether the same version will be first released to testers and only then to consumers or if the company plans to ship it at the same time for everyone.

Take everything with a grain of salt, but there’s no doubt that the release of Windows 10 Mobile is just around the corner.
