Microsoft has released Windows 10 cumulative update KB3176927 in anticipation of the Anniversary Update launch, and just like its predecessors, it comes with bug fixes and performance improvements exclusively.

Basically, the role of this cumulative update is to prepare devices for the release of the final Anniversary Update bits, so it pushes the version number of 14393.5.

According to the changelog posted in the Feedback Hub on insider devices, this update improves the reliability and performance of Microsoft Edge with AdBlock and LastPass extensions enabled. Microsoft knows that these two extensions are going to be the main two stars of the new extension support in Windows 10 Anniversary Update, so it’s working around the clock to make them run smoothly on devices.

Improved battery life

Additionally, Microsoft says that, following the install of this update, battery life should be significantly improved, as it focused specifically on this thing ahead of the Anniversary Update.

“We fixed an issue causing battery to drain due to runaway CPU processes while a device is idle. We also fixed a battery life issue due to the proximity sensor always running on some devices,” Microsoft says in the release notes, which you can read in full at the end of the article.

There are also fixes that were included in the previous cumulative update, so Microsoft most likely tried to refine performance even more with this release. For instance, an issue causing Store apps to stop launching due to a licensing issue should be fixed now, and so should be a bug that resulted in Windows updates being delayed on systems with Connected Standby activated.

Just like all the other updates, KB3176927 can be downloaded via Windows Update, but keep in mind that you must be running Windows 10 build 14393 to receive it. It’s available on both PCs and mobile devices, as long as they are enrolled in the fast ring of the Windows Insider program.
