London-based company weComm announced it has come up with a new way of delivering full-scale applications on mobile handsets. Instead of the usual way of running applications by downloading a program on the mobile device, weComm's wave3 platform can stream entire applications, including content, on demand from a central server to small client framework that resides on the handset. The client framework is capable of running multiple applications natively on over 150 devices based
on Symbian, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Java.

With the wave3 platform, users no longer need to download, install and configure a large array of applications on their handsets, instead, consumers have access to lists of server-based applications that can be accessed whenever they want from a single icon on the mobile device. Also, software developers benefit from the wave3 platform by lowering costs and time-to-market associated with the building of applications. This is achieved by removing the necessity to develop, test and deploy multiple version of an application to ensure compatibility with a wide range of handsets, as the wave3 platform requires a single application to be written, which is then adapted for specific devices and executed on the client framework. wave3 applications can be streamed across any Internet connection including GPRS, 3G, WiFi, WiMAX, USB and Bluetooth.

To ensure the fast and reliable streaming of applications across wireless networks, weComm has used its mobile Quality of Service technology, which continually measures the real-time condition of every user's network connection and adapts accordingly. wave3 consists of three distinct parts: a server that processes and streams content and applications on demand, a network transmission protocol that optimizes communications according to available network resources and an application client framework on the mobile handset that provides the native application user interface.

The wave3 platform is targeted at mobile network operators, handset manufacturers, content providers and application developers, allowing them to offer consumers diverse functionality such as: mobile TV with interactive channel switching, media portals with live news and sports, downloadable and on-demand content, messaging, live trading, betting and gaming transactions.
