Samsung has finally begun rolling out the official Android Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, after weeks of testing the beta version. In fact, Samsung released five Nougat beta versions in the Galaxy Beta program before ending it in late December.

The Android 7.0 Nougat version for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge has a 215MB size and is arriving to users who were part of the Galaxy Beta program, according to SamMobile. All other S7 and S7 edge owners will receive the update, but Samsung decided to give a head start to Galaxy Beta users.

In addition, the 7.0 Nougat software update will be much larger in size for regular users. Still, it’s unclear when regular users will receive the update. Perhaps the rumored January 17 date might actually be the day, but it remains to be seen.

The update includes the January 2017 security patch

Interestingly, Samsung did say a while ago that it would provide Galaxy S7 and S7 edge users with updates directly to Android 7.1 Nougat, but today’s announcement reveals an update to the first version of Android Nougat.

For the SM-G935F model, the update brings the January 2017 security patch and it should reach Galaxy S7 and S7 edge users in all markets soon. The update also brings a new user interface, as well as multiple other features.

The Android 7.0 Nougat update will bring about 20 new features and visuals to the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, including app shortcuts for default Samsung apps. It will also incorporate the highly popular multi-window mode found in Android 7.0.

Some Samsung features were also introduced, like the option to change the screen’s resolution in order to save battery and boost performance. The new messaging app lets users classify texts by contacts and threads, to make it easier to manage text messages.
