About a month ago, a rumor surfaced suggesting that Samsung might unveil the Galaxy Note 7 during Unpacked 2016, which will be held on August 2. Today, the South Korean manufacturer has officially announced the Galaxy Note Unpacked 2016 event and has explained why the upcoming Note will bear the “7” moniker.

Samsung has made an announcement stating that the Galaxy Note 7 will be unveiled during the Unpacked 2016 event in New York, starting at 11.00 a.m. EDT on August 2, 2016. Simultaneous events will also be held in Rio de Janeiro at noon and in London at 4.00 p.m. local hour.

In the press release, Samsung informs us that the New York event will be streamed live at www.samsung.com and Samsung Newsroom.

The S Pen stylus will surely get added functionality

The company also confirms rumors surrounding its decision to skip the Note 6 and go straight to the Note 7 moniker. Samsung states that it wishes to bring the upcoming Note in line with Galaxy S devices as well as minimize confusion, considering that some consumers might have thought that the Note 6 wasn't the latest in the series.

The post doesn't provide any specifics on the upcoming handset, aside from the fact that it will come with a large screen and added functionality to the S Pen. It is said that the S Pen stylus will sport a new design, a new Dictionary, and a text-to-speech option.

Aside from this, the iris scanner and 6GB of RAM will surely be the selling points of the upcoming Note, and while the former is all but officially confirmed, some Note 7 variants with 4GB of RAM have been spotted online, thus adding to the confusion.

Considering that we're about three weeks away from the unveiling, it shouldn't be long until rumors are either refuted or confirmed.
