3.3 million flat models and 1.6 million curved versions

Samsung expected to sell several million Galaxy S7 units in the first few weeks, which is why the South Korean company needs to have them ready for shipping by spring.

Although the Galaxy S flagship smartphones were usually launched on the market in April/May, Samsung plans an earlier launch for the Galaxy S7.

The smartphone will be announced in late February and is expected to go on sale as early as mid-March.

According to a new report coming from Reuters that cites South Korean media, Samsung will launch two Samsung Galaxy S7 versions.

The flat-screen Samsung Galaxy S7 model will pack a 5.2-inch display while the curved model will boast a slightly larger 5.5-inch display.

This report contradicts previous rumors that claimed Samsung would launch four versions of its flagship smartphone: Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Plus, Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 edge+.

The same report from the South Korean publication Electronic Times states that Samsung plans to manufacture around 5 million Galaxy S7 units for the initial launch.

Around 3.3 million Samsung Galaxy S7 devices should be ready for the smartphone's launch in February, along with 1.6 million Galaxy S7 edge handsets.

More could be produced in case of strong demand

If sales go strong after the initial launch, Samsung might ramp up the production of Galaxy S7 units, but it will probably take a few months until we know how well the smartphone will sell.

Since this is just a report that does not name the source, we suggest our readers take it with a grain of salt. We expect many more rumors to emerge in the coming weeks, which might contradict each other.

We have already reported yesterday that Samsung plans to add an iris scanner to all Galaxy S7 models, which might increase the phone's retail price. We don't know by how much or whether the rumor is true, but we will most likely find out next year.
