14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung recently announced that it partnered with the second-largest commercial airline in South Korea to offer a special edition of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Only 2,000 units of the special smartphones will be available.
Customers who are interested in the special edition Asiana Airlines Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ can register for a unit until April 17. The phones will be available for purchase using Asiana Airlines mileage points, which means that they won’t be sold at retail.
Passengers with 30,000 mileage points can get 50% of the phone’s $818 price tag. This means that the 64GB Galaxy S8 can be purchased for as little as $496 and 30,000 mileage points. The promo is part of a deal between Asiana Airlines and SK Telecom and is only available for customers of the South Korean carrier.
Same specs as standard Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ phones
Customers who won’t buy the Asiana Airlines special edition smartphone won’t miss much, considering that the models have the same specs as standard Galaxy S8 smartphones. The only change is the Asiana Airlines logo at boot up, which will replace the current Galaxy splash screen, as well as a special Asiana theme.
Aside from this, the smartphones feature 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Infinity Displays with 1440 x 2960 pixel resolution and 18:5:9 aspect ratio. Moreover, the phones have 64GB of internal memory, with the option to expand to 256GB using a microSD card. They run the latest Snapdragon 835 platform and come with 12MP sensors on the back and 8MP selfie snappers. Battery capacity is different on the two smartphones, with 3,000mAh on the Galaxy S8 and 3,500mAh on the Galaxy S8+.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ registered record-breaking pre-orders in Korea, surpassing those of the Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy S7. Samsung expects this year’s Galaxy S flagship to be more popular than its predecessor.
