Another confirmation that the update is in the works

Samsung has already announced an Android beta program for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge owners who want to help test the Nougat update before it gets released.

The good news is the Galaxy S7/S7 egde won't be the only smartphones to receive the long-awaited Android 7.0 Nougat update in the coming months.

Although previous rumors claimed the South Korean company already started working on Nougat for the Galaxy S6/S6 edge, Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy Tab S2, there was no confirmation from Samsung that the information is accurate.

Today, we've got another piece of the puzzle that makes us believe the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S6/S6 edge is really in the works at Samsung. A certain Galaxy S6 (SM-G920x) has been listed at GFXBench and the spec sheet mentions Android 7.0 Nougat.

However, since the spec sheet lists all Android versions starting with Android 5.0.2 and up to Android 7.0 Nougat, it's hard to determine whether or not the phone was running the latter when it was benchmarked.

The update is unlikely to arrive until early 2017

One other piece of information that could shed some light on the matter is another listing at Geekbench. This time, the Samsung Galaxy S6 spec list mentions the smartphone is running Android 7.0 Nougat, so there's no doubt that the update is being internally tested.

Some beta builds might be pushed to select Galaxy S6 users before Nougat is soft launched, but we can't be sure for the moment. Even if Samsung is hard at work to provide as many devices as possible with Android 7.0 Nougat, that won't happen so fast.

We don't expect Android 7.0 Nougat to arrive on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge until next year, more likely during Q1 2017.

But if you own the Galaxy S7/S 7 egde, you can expect the update to arrive earlier, possibly by the end of 2016.
