Samsung has finally taken the wraps off the Galaxy A8, its slimmest Android smartphone to date. The device leaked numerous times in the last couple of weeks, so Samsung's announcement is no surprise for those who had been following the news on Galaxy A8.

Even though the smartphone hasn't been unveiled during a dedicated event, Samsung Galaxy A8 is now listed on the company's official website in China, which means it's only available for purchase in this country for the moment.

Samsung has yet to announce the pricing for the Galaxy A8, but previous rumors point to quite a high price for this mid-range smartphone. It appears that customers who wish to grab the Galaxy A8 will have to come up with no less than €440 ($485).

That's a steep price considering what the smartphone has to offer in terms of specs. The good news is that if you decide to go for the Galaxy A8, you will own the thinnest Samsung smartphone to date.

Samsung Galaxy A8 is only 5.9mm thin and weighs 151g (battery included). It features the same design as the Galaxy S6, but the back side is made of aluminum instead of glass coating.

Dual-SIM support and fingerprint scanner

Furthermore, the smartphone boasts a large 5.7-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass coating.

The Galaxy A8 is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory.

It offers dual-SIM support, but one of the SIM slots can be used as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 64GB).

On the back, Samsung Galaxy A8 features a 16-megapixel photo snapper with OIS (optical image stabilization), autofocus, LED flash, f/1.9 aperture and video recording, while in the front there's a secondary 5-megapixel selfie camera.

The smartphone comes with fingerprint scanner and multiple connectivity options, including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS with GLONASS and Beidou support, along with NFC (Near Field Communication).

The Galaxy A8 is powered by a 3,050 mAh battery, which is rated for up to 300 hours of standby time. It's also worth mentioning that the smartphone ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box and it's available in white, black and gold.
