File this in the “I’ll eat my shoe if it really happens” category, but a new report claims that Apple is getting ready to unveil the second-generation iPhone SE at an event in August.

French website iGeneration writes that Apple plans to use an event next month to take the wraps off a new 4-inch device, though the company is expected to actually unveil the new iPhone 7s, 7s Plus, and iPhone 8 in September.

But according to this report, the debut of the new-generation models would only take place in October due to production delays, and this is why Apple plans to buy more time with a new iPhone SE.

While at some level it makes sense, especially given the plethora of reports pointing to delays impacting the iPhone 8, the said August event does not align with Apple’s typical release schedule, as Cupertino has always used September to take the wraps off new models, while the first iPhone SE launched in March 2016.

More affordable iPhone

The same report claims that what Apple plans to do with the second-generation SE is offer a more affordable model, so the device would be priced at 399 Euros in Europe. This is down from 489 Euros for the existing model.

While analysts believe that 4-inch iPhones are no longer part of Apple’s vision, the most recent leaks pointed to a lineup that includes just 3 different models, namely the 7s, the 7s Plus, and the iPhone 8. All of them are projected to see daylight this fall, though sales of the iPhone 8 are likely to start with a delay because of the production struggles, with the display in particular said to be causing problems to Apple.

At the same time, there are reports that Apple might be having a hard time choosing the location of the fingerprint sensor, with the company originally said to aim to integrate it into the display, but then looking for alternatives due to a number of technical issues.
