Motorola intends to announce the Moto Z2 Play

A few days ago, leaked images suggested that Motorola plans to announce the new Moto Z2 Play smartphone on June 1 and it seems that the company has confirmed the rumor. The definitive confirmation comes from Motorola’s division in Canada, which has revealed that the “next bold phone” will be announced on June 1.

Tomorrow marks the day when Motorola unveils the Moto Z2 Play, the first phone in the Moto Z2 line to arrive this year. The company has changed its strategy from last year, when it introduced the Moto Z and Moto Z Force first, while the Moto Z Play arrived much later.

All three smartphones were compatible with Moto Mods and that’s not expected to change with this year’s iterations. Some say that the Moto Z2 Play could replace the Moto Z in this year’s lineup, which could explain why the smartphone will feature a thinner design, but also a smaller battery. The main highlight of last year’s Moto Z Play was its highly potent battery, but that doesn’t apply to this year’s model.

That would mean that the Moto Z2 lineup would include only the Moto Z2 Force and Moto Z2 Play. Still, there have been rumors pointing to a Moto Z2 device, together with some images, so the above theory doesn’t seem to have much ground to stand on.

4GB of RAM and a 3,000mAh battery with Turbo Charging inside

Images of the Moto Z2 Play smartphone and retail box leaked a few days ago, revealing a smartphone with a 3,000mAh battery with Turbo Charging and a 5.5-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. The fingerprint scanner seems to be embedded inside the oval-shaped home button on the front, while the device is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.

Moreover, it could have a 12MP camera on the back and a 5MP selfie snapper in the front, and run Snapdragon 626. Android 7.1.1 Nougat will be available out of the box, while the Moto Z2 Play won’t mark the return of the 3.5mm headphone jack.
