The smartphone will be announced later this year

Last year’s Motorola Moto Z line brought the introduction of modular accessories that could easily be slapped on the back of the Moto Z, Moto Z Force or Z Play phones using connector pins. Naturally, Motorola is now looking to release new iterations in the line, and this year’s devices will retain compatibility with Moto Mods.

Motorola Moto Z2 Force has leaked in images before, the logo of the Moto Z2 surfaced online and now it’s time for information about the Moto Z2 Play to surface. Press renders of the new smartphone show a design quite similar to last year’s Moto Z models.

Moto Z2 Play appears to retain the single-lens camera on the back, LED flash and connector pins for a variety of Moto Mods, more to come in the following months.

One easy to spot difference compared to last year’s model is the shape of the physical home button, which appears to be a bit more elongated, as opposed to the square button of last year. Moreover, the button will support swiping gestures, aside from fingerprint scanning sensors.

Mid-ranger with Snapdragon 652 SoC and 5.5-inch display

Aside from this, the smartphone is expected to retain its mid-range specs, with some minor improvements, perhaps regarding the processor inside. It will probably feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 platform, compared to Snapdragon 625 on the Moto Z Play.

Battery capacity will probably be the main highlight, providing more juice compared to other Moto Z2 models. However, it seems that only the Moto Z2 and Moto Z2 Force phones in the line will have a dual-camera setup. Display size should be the same at 5.5 inches with 1080p resolution.

The date on the render reads Thursday, June 8, which could be the day when Motorola intends to announce the new Moto Z2 Play. However, this is only a supposition, considering that Motorola unveiled the Z Play much later than the other two phones in the line, in August last year.
