14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft’s Surface Laptop got leaked a few minutes ago, only a few hours before its public unveiling scheduled to take place in New York on May 2.
And naturally, more rumors on the new Surface model are swirling around the web, including some that concern the pricing of the device.
Even though it’s too early to tell if this is accurate or not, there’s some speculation that the Surface Laptop could go on sale from $999, as Microsoft still wants to keep it a premium device, just like the rest of the Surface lineup. Others point to a $799 price tag, while the most optimistic fans expect a price that’s somewhere in the Surface Pro 4 range.
Since the Surface Laptop is primarily aimed at enterprises, making it truly affordable should have been a priority for Microsoft, though the company seems to embrace the same approach as for the rest of the Surface models.
Alcantara for the keyboard
Basically, the software giant is trying to build the pioneer of the Windows 10 S lineup, while partners, like HP, Dell, and others, will be in charge of expanding the ecosystem with devices in other price ranges. As a result, the Surface Laptop could be rather expensive, but more affordable models will come from other OEMs.
Living proof that Microsoft is aiming for a big price for the Surface Laptop is the keyboard, which appears to be covered in Alcantara, a rather premium fabric that’s being used on the more expensive Surface Pro 4 keyboard model as well.
As for the hardware specifications, it’s believed the Surface Laptop won’t be as powerful as the Surface Book, but Microsoft doesn’t want to make it underpowered either, so expect a mid-range chip that should be able to run Windows 10 S at least decently. Most likely, options with 4GB and 8GB RAM will also be offered.
The Surface Laptop will probably become available for pre-order later this month, but full details will be disclosed in just a few hours by Microsoft itself.
