This time, users in the Fast ring are the ones getting it

After rolling out the first Windows 10 Redstone 4 build earlier this week for users in the Skip Ahead channel, Microsoft came back on late Friday to ship another Redstone 3 build, this time aimed at those whose devices are configured for the Fast ring.

Since the Windows 10 Redstone 3 (officially called Windows 10 Fall Creators Update) is now in the final stages, new builds don’t bring any new features, but only performance refinements and bug fixes, and this is one of the reasons they arrive at a much faster pace.

This is the case of Windows 10 Redstone 3 build 16281 as well, which introduces 6 general fixes which you can see in full in the box after the jump.

One very important improvement concerns CPU usage, as Microsoft has identified a problem causing CPU spikes when the mouse was not being used.

“We’ve made some adjustments to address an issue resulting in sudden and brief CPU spikes where you couldn’t move your mouse. If you’ve encountered this, please try it in this new build and let us know if your experience has improved,” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program explained.

One month to get Redstone 3 ready

The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will launch on October 17, so Microsoft still has approximately one month to finalize the release. Windows insiders will be the first ones to get the RTM build before everyone else, and the company has promised to let everyone know when an RTM candidate is being shipped for the final testing.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has also started shipping out builds that are part of the Redstone 4 branch, but only users who are included in the Skip Ahead group are getting them.

Skip Ahead seats are limited though, and Microsoft has already closed registrations, but for the time being there’s not much to lose because the very first builds only include code that paves the way for more substantial changes coming later in the development process.
