Microsoft stores started taking pre-orders for Lumia 950 XL only a few hours ago, but the device is already sold out for the first wave and will now ship to your door by December 11.

As WinBeta notes, the pre-order button is back, so should you decide to purchase the phone, you are once again forced for wait a little bit longer, until Microsoft produces more units.

In the United States, the Lumia 950 XL comes with a free Continuum adapter, officially known as the Display Dock, but Microsoft says that this offer runs only as long as supplies last. So the chances are that if you purchase the device now to get it as part of the second wave of shipments, the company might run out of Continuum adapters.

Spearheading the Windows 10 Mobile effort

While it is difficult to tell how successful the Lumia 950 XL actually is in the pre-order stage because Microsoft hasn't disclosed any reservation numbers, the new device is the leading model for the Windows 10 Mobile push, which is expected to debut later this month.

Windows 10 Mobile is Microsoft's new attempt at the smartphone market, and devices such as the Lumia 950 XL and its smaller brother the 950 are supposed to convince more people to try out Redmond's new platform.

Lumia 950 XL comes with advanced hardware specifications and features a 5.7-inch WQHD display, 3 GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 810 processor clocked at 2.0 GHz, 32 GB of storage space, Gorilla Glass 4 protection, microSD card support, and a battery of 3,340 mAh.

The device also supports the aforementioned Display Dock, which makes it possible for users to turn the Lumia 950 XL into a fully featured PC by plugging in an external screen, a mouse and a keyboard. The phone screen is then mirrored on the monitor, and all the work you do is saved in the device's memory.
