LG was counting on high sales for its G5 flagship released last year, but the modular smartphone didn’t live up to expectations. For the next smartphone in the G series, LG has made some design changes and has reportedly ditched the modular frame.

Details about the upcoming G6 have been leaking for some time now, and the latest image to surface at SlashLeaks reveals the G6 inside a case made by an unknown manufacturer. Earlier leaked images showed a similarity between the designs of the G5 and G6, with the latter having some elements borrowed from the V20, like the dual camera setup on the back.

Aside from this, the back of the phone will also house the LED flash, positioned between the two camera sensors, and the fingerprint scanner located just below the dual-camera setup. The two cameras are placed in a horizontal position on the back.

The G6 might come with a removable battery

It’s difficult to say for sure if LG actually ditched the modular design on the upcoming G6, but it’s quite probable since the “Friends” accessories didn’t manage to catch on. Some reports say that the G6 will have a removable battery, but it’s hard to say for sure at this point.

LG is expected to unveil the G6 in February, during MWC 2017 scheduled in Barcelona, while the phone will actually launch on the market in March. With this schedule, LG might be looking to attract some customers before Samsung unveils its Galaxy S8 in April.

The G6 might be the first smartphone to run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset, with improved performance, security and battery life. The new chip will be presented in just a few days during CES 2017. The G6 might also have a 5.3-inch display and USB Type-C port, aside from a 3D glass panel on the back and a 2.5D display in the front.
