Instagram has had a spectacular growth in recent months

Instagram has officially hit 400 million daily active users, which is a great feat considering the app’s history.

During Facebook’s fourth-quarter earnings call on Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg casually mentioned that Instagram now has 400 million users that come back to the app every single day. The number itself is particularly impressive, but even more so is the fact that it went from 300 million daily users to 400 million in just seven months.

Back in 2012, when Facebook acquired Instagram, the service had 30 million iOS users and was just launching on Android. With a little bit of help from Facebook, the app reached the 100 million monthly active users number by February 2013.

Overall, Instagram has 600 million monthly users, at least according to some numbers announced back in December, 100 million of those joining the service in the six months before.

Of course, since Instagram is part of Facebook, it couldn’t just stick to the monthly userbase like your regular service and had to tell the world just how many of its users took to the app every single day. It may sound like boasting, but really, there’s a lot to brag about since its main competitor, which is Snapchat, barely hits the 150 million daily users mark.

New feature coming soon

It seems that Instagram is looking for ways to make users interact even more and to help boost the content available on the platform. According to some voices, the latest app update features a new ability that’s currently in testing - uploading up to 10 photos in an album and posting it to your timeline. This feature has been kept locked for advertisers so far, so it’s nice to see that people might soon be getting access to it too.

“We announced in December that Instagram now has over 600 million monthly actives and recently passed 400 million daily actives. Instagram Stories reached 150 million daily actives just five months after the launch, and we've added new features like Boomerang and Live into Stories, and I'm excited to see that continue to grow,” said Mark Zuckerberg during the conference call.
