Not slowed down by acquisition

A lot of people were surprised, and not necessarily in a good way, when ZeniMax Media, which is the parent company of Bethesda, announced having bought id Software, the legendary design studio responsible for the release of such classics as Doom and Quake.

While gamers might still be thinking about what this means for them, the studio is not missing a beat and has announced that it is adding a third development team that will focus on the creation of the first game developed in collaboration with ZeniMax.

Pete Hines, who is the vice president of marketing at Bethesda, told Tech Radar that “They'd like to start building up a full third team and, as a result of this deal, they'll be able to do that more quickly than they could have previously with the additional resources they have to work with now.” Hines also said that he was not surprised about the “jaws hitting the floor and more than a few 'Holy *insert profanity*' “ reactions to the acquisition.

At the moment, id Software is already working on three projects. The first to arrive is Wolfenstein, which is set to offer a classic shooter experience boosted by the addition of Veil-based magical powers as the classic storyline of Blaskowitz versus the Nazis unfolds yet again.

But the big expectations are focused on two other games, Doom 4 and Rage. The former is apparently being scripted at the moment and fans of the series are looking for something new after the disappointing Doom 3; the latter is being talked about as a game that will revolutionize the genre. id Software is promising that the start of the development on a new videogame does not mean that work on its other projects will slow down.
