It sure didn't take them long

It sure took hackers little time until they found a solution to get around Apple's new firmware update that prevents them for installing third party applications. The solution has no effect on unlocked iPhones that no longer use the services of the original carrier, but still makes a good start.

Upgrading to v1.1.1 was until now a difficult decision to make, as it brought some advantages and the huge drawback of no longer being able to use the third part apps that were installed. There was no decision to make for those who had unlocked their iPhone to work in any other network, as the firmware upgrade instantly locked their devices, as Apple had promised prior to the software's release.

It proves to be quite impressive to see that hackers have gotten to Apple's solution so fast. There is still a great deal of work left to be done, as the phone now supports only 15 application icons. It sounds like a small problem that will surely find its solving, as the current apps are installed and working great. It's only a matter of time until a fully working solution for removing the downs of the new upgrade is found.

The iPhone Dev Team is currently working on ways to make this possible. At the moment, things seem pretty even and should satisfy Apple as well. The handset owners that chose to stick with their old contract are now able to use all the features that made the iPhone so great up to this point. On the other hand, those that unlocked it are still punished and unable to benefit from the advantages of the latest upgrade.

For those that have already made the transition to version 1.1.1 of the iPhone's software, the future sounds great, with the possibility of benefiting both from the louder volume and TV-Out features, as well as from installing any type of software they might like.
