Reports quoting p0sixninja as saying that the iPad 2 jailbreak was ‘weeks’ away are misleading, according to several tweets from iPhone Dev Team member Musclenerd.

Admittedly one of the publications reporting on the so-called iPad 2 jailbreak progress, Softpedia quoted the hacker as saying that jailbreak tools for Apple’s iPad 2 were being prepared with an estimated arrival in ‘weeks.’

Today, Musclenerd, of the iPhone Dev Team, fired off a few tweets to clarify that this is not the case at all.

“The ETA of ‘weeks’ for iPad2 JB was just a guess,” he writes.

“It could very well be months for public iPad2 JB. Pressing for ETA just causes guesstimates like that to get misquoted and mutated,” Musclenerd adds.

However, the hacker does not clarify why an estimated time of arrival was even mentioned, since there was no ETA to begin with.

Musclenerd also stressed that, should there be any iPad 2 jailbreak updates in the near future, they will come from comex - another member of the infamous iPhone Dev Team.

“…the only iPad2 jailbreak progress to date has been from comex. Everything else is a misunderstanding,” he clarifies.

iPad 2 remains the only new-generation device that hasn’t been tampered with, with all other iDevices being jailbreakable via software utilities like PwnageTool and resdn0w.

The second-generation AppleTV, also an iOS-based product, is also supported by these tools, as well as by Seas0nPass, a jailbreak app specifically created for the set-top box.

The Dev-Team’s first official update on the iPad 2 jailbreak came in a May 6 blog post when they confirmed that “The iPad2 jailbreak remains under development … [as] the original exploit @comex developed in the first week of the iPad2 release was mysteriously fixed by Apple within days of its development.”

The team cautioned that, because of this, users should not expect “much public discussion of the iPad2 jailbreak until it’s actually finished and ready for release.”

The group actually asked to “please avoid asking about it.”
