Soon after the introduction of the Radeon HD 6990 boutique computer builders have started announcing their desktops built using AMD's new graphics solution, and the latest to join the list is iBuyPower that has introduced the card in a wide range of gaming systems.

The Radeon HD 6990 is AMD's flagship video and it is built using two Cayman XT cores that have been placed on the same printed circuit board and connected via an internal CrossFireX link.

As far as its specifications are concerned, the card packs 3072 stream processors, 192 texturing units and 64 ROPs as well as dual 256-bit memory buses, which connect to 4GB of video buffer, and deliver a total memory bandwidth of 307.2GB/s.

The default clocks of the card are set at 830MHz, for the GPUs, and 1250MHz (5GHz effective), for the memory, and the core's operating frequency can be increased via a special switch that enables the card to work at 880MHz.

iBuyPower has already made the HD 6990 available in a wide range of gaming systems, including their low-end Athlon II powered machines, which can be purchased right now from their website.

In addition, some systems can also be configured with two CrossFireX-connected Radeon HD 6990 graphics cards.

This is an impressive feat as two such dual-GPU monsters can output as much as 450W of heat back into the system's chassis so a high-end cooling system is a must.

“Delivering exceptional graphics is vital to our gaming customers,” said Darren Su, vice president of iBuyPower.

“The AMD Radeon 6990 cards are the fastest ever and allow us to offer smooth, crystal clear graphics on a larger scale than ever before.”

Starting price for an HD 6990 powered system is $1328 and this will get you a water-cooled Athlon II X2 250 processor, 4GB of 1333MHz DDR3 memory, 500GB of storage, and an XFX Core Edition PRO 850W power supply.
