Dare to be Creative has updated iArchiver, its archiving and file compression / decompression utility for Mac OS X. iArchiver 1.4 adds German localization and allows resizing. Localizations for French, Spanish, Italian and Russian are also coming this month. The software costs US$26 to buy, while version 1.4 is a free update to registered users.

One of the best features of iArchiver is that it lets you inspect and view individual files without unpacking the whole archive. The convert feature helps users streamline their archives to a common format. Extracting archives in place is done by dragging them to the iArchiver icon in the dock, eliminating the stress you'd have gone through with other archivers.

To share large files, distribute them as DMGs, create DMG, Zip, 7-Zip and many other formats, iArchiver is the tool for you. With iArchiver 1.3 released in April, the software added support for new file formats including Cabinet (.cab) and ARJ (.arj) files. For those having trouble opening an email attachment, iArchiver opens DMG, Zip, RAR, Gzip, Z, 7-zip, LhA, Bzip2, ARJ, StuffIt, hqx, rpm and many more common and even some uncommon formats. iArchiver 1.3 also delivered a fresh new look, and made the app's icon fit better in the Dock and Finder toolbar. Lastly, the software offers progress reports when creating, extracting and converting archives.

Dare to be Creative Ltd. is also responsible for another great piece of Mac software called Dragoman. The app comes in handy when, for instance, you download some music files but can't listen to them on your mp3 player.

iArchiver is a Universal Binary, meaning it runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. It requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or later.
