Google on Monday announced the release of the fourth and also the last Developer Preview (DP) development snapshot of its upcoming Android 8.0 mobile operating system.

Those who have their devices enrolled into Google's Android Beta Program are now receiving the Android O Developer Preview 4 update, which appears to be bear the last touches as the search giant rushes to finalize the major release of the Android mobile operating system, which is expected to land in late August.

"This is the final preview before we launch the official Android O platform to consumers later this summer," said Dave Burke, VP of Engineering, Google. "Take this opportunity to wrap up your testing and publish your updates soon, to give users a smooth transition to Android O."

What's new in Android 8.0 Developer Preview 4

Google considers the Developer Preview 4 build of the Android O platform a Release Candidate (RC) snapshot, which means that it includes the final APIs (Android 26.0.0 Support Library), the latest bug fixes and under-the-hood optimizations, as well as all the new features and system behaviors that will be available in the final release.

Also included in the Android 8.0 DP4 update is a new version of the Android Testing Support Library, which bears new features like Multiprocess Espresso and Android Test Orchestrator among many other goodies. Android O is also bringing features like picture-in-picture, shortcut pinning, notification channels and dots, and autofill.

Google is currently rolling out the Andriod O Developer Preview 4 update to Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and Nexus Player devices, and will soon release incremental updates to the Android Emulator system images and Android SDK tools in the next few days.
