Google is definitely on fire. The company announced earlier today an overhaul of the Google Play Music app, and more recently it updated Allo with themes and new stickers.

Right now, the search giant has confirmed that another one of its apps, Newsstand, has been completely redesigned and received new features and improvements. Both the mobile and desktop Newsstand apps have been updated with a new, modern look.

Google notes that the update focuses on “personalization, rich media, and the extension of our platform to the web.” That being said, if you've been using Newsstand on a regular basis, expect some major visual changes.

First of all, as soon as you open the Newsstand app, you will notice there's a personalized briefing that shows you a mix of the most important stories that you need to know. Obviously, that includes major headlines, local news, and other personal interests.

Next, you can navigate through a set of stories recommended by Newsstand, which come from your favorite topics and sources. Moreover, each of these recommendations come with options to send feedback and see why it's been selected by the application.

Data Saver mode allows users to monitor bandwidth and data

The latest update enhances support for multimedia content. Newsstand users can now browse their feed and notice that all videos have autoplay enabled. The podcasts controls have been tweaked for easier use, while the images feature a much higher resolution than before.

Also, with the Data Saver mode, users will be able to monitor all the data and bandwidth the application consumes at every moment.

Google also announces that it has decided to extend Newsstand 4.0 to the web via a new application, so it's not just limited to Android and iOS anymore. This means that regardless of what devices you use, all personalization options and favorite sources will be accessible anytime, anywhere.

All the changes included in this update will be rolled out by Google to Android and iOS devices in the next couple of days. The desktop app will be available soon as well.
