Gears of War 4 is probably the biggest video game coming to the Xbox One this year, and the development team at The Coalition and publisher Microsoft are finally ready to offer details about the story that gamers will be able to experience in the new title.

The narrative will be centered on JD Fenix, the son of Marcus Fenix, the character who anchored the first trilogy of titles, and it seems that the new protagonist has had a very privileged upbringing.

Kait Diaz, a survivalist who experienced a much tougher childhood, and Delmont Walker, aka Del, a friend from boarding school and army training, are the other two core characters of Gears of War 4 and can be chosen for cooperative play.

The action kicks off when a mysterious military incident attracts the cast to an area of wilderness where they will have to use their abilities to face off against a new threat.

JD Fenix is voiced by Liam McIntyre, who has appeared on The Flash and has also been the lead in Spartacus, with Kait borrowing her appearance from Laura Bailey, who also starred as Olympia Vale in Halo 5: Guardians, Fiona in Tales from the Borderlands and other roles.

Del is portrayed by Eugene Byrd, who appeared on Arrow, Bones and in Battlefield Hardline.

Gears of War 4 aims to revitalize the series

The Coalition is a new studio that Microsoft has built using veterans of the franchise to make sure that the game to arrives on the Xbox One delivers a new take on the familiar third-person shooter mechanics of the franchise.

Rod Fergusson says that he wants Gears of War 4 to be a showcase for the power of the Xbox One just as the previous titles in the series managed to impress on the Xbox 360.

The Coalition has also talked about offering a title that has a more horror feel while being built from the ground up to use cooperative mechanics.

A beta period for the game might be announced soon, open to all those who have played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on the Xbox One, probably designed to show off a limited part of the multiplayer side of the shooter.

The Coalition and Microsoft have not yet announced an official launch date for Gears of War 4 and more gameplay-related details will probably arrive during E3 2016.
