The two smartphones won’t charge fast if the screen is on

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ come with very potent batteries inside, as well as fast charging to make the devices ready for use in a smaller amount of time. However, it has recently been revealed that the phones won’t charge if the screen is kept on.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ won’t fast charge if the screen is on and the devices are being used. The fast charging notification continues to appear in the status bar, but the phones will charge at regular speeds, according to a report.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ come with the same Quick Charge or Adaptive Fast Charging technology that has been inside smartphones since the Galaxy S6. The test conducted by Phandroid reveals that the Galaxy S8 only took 1 hour and 37 minutes to charge its battery to the fullest, while the screen was off.

However, when the screen was kept on at all times during the charging process, it took the phone almost 3 hours to reach the 100% full battery charge status. And the Galaxy S8 has a 3,000mAh battery, which means that it would take the Galaxy S8+ with 3,500mAh battery much longer to charge, especially in the latter scenario.

By comparison, Google Pixel uses USB Type-C port to deliver “rapid charging,” while the charging speed slows when the phone’s temperature reaches a specific level. Still, users can achieve peak charging speeds with the screen on if they perform fewer battery-consuming tasks like writing messages or browsing online.

It’s rather unlikely for someone to use their smartphone during the entire duration of the charging process, but users should keep in mind that if they do use their phones for a relatively prolonged period of time while charging, they’ll have to wait longer for the battery to reach 100%.

Samsung may have set the limitation in place in order to avoid the smartphone from overheating, as fast charging tends to increase the temperature of the device more than regular charging does.
