Don’t trust them, even if they look like the real deal

Apple is expected to take the wraps off the iPhone 7 next week, but given the number of leaks that have already reached the web in the last few months, there’s little we don’t already know about this new model.

And yet, iPhone 7 leaks continue to be trending these days online, but what’s important to know is that many of them are actually fakes that show either Chinese clones of the upcoming iPhone or cases that were designed based on the information that went public earlier this year.

This is the case of the videos you can see at the end of the article, although there’s a small chance that the one posted by Sonny Dickson, who actually has a good track record of iPhone leaks, shows the real deal. But the others are reportedly showing Chinese clones, and not the real iPhone 7 unboxing, so at least you can take them with a healthy pinch of salt.

Truth be told, however, these leaks still show the changes that Apple is planning for the iPhone 7 - there’s not much changing in terms of design, so it’s really not that hard to create a clone that looks similar to the new phone.

The same iPhone 6-inspired design

The iPhone 7 will be super similar to the iPhone 6s, and people with knowledge of the matter indicated that it might even have the same dimensions - at some point, there was a rumor that Apple planned to make it thinner, but in the end, it looks like the company abandoned this idea, and at best, the iPhone 7 is only 1mm thinner than its predecessor.

The antenna lines are now placed at the top and the bottom of the phone, and no longer on the back, but what’s weird is that Apple decided to keep them gray, and not paint them in the color of the handset. Also, rumor has it that a black iPhone could also launch, but it’s hard to say if this was just pure speculation or not.

And last but not least, the iPhone 7 Plus will get a dual-camera system while the standard 7 will feature a slightly bigger camera but with single lens. This is the biggest upgrade on the new generation, and Apple expects the Plus to sell better this time just because of the new dual-system camera.

Full details will be provided next week on the 7th, but in the meantime, take last-minute leaks with a healthy amount of skepticism.
