The system will continue to evolve to satisfy players

During the past few days, players have started complaining about the Invalid Game Data that has been popping up for many in Dark Souls 3, warning them that they have been modifying game files or had them modified and that this could result in further action from developer From Software and publisher Bandai Namco.

In a new blog post, the two companies are explaining the line informs players that they have inconsistent files, modification of save data, game alterations or an external file and that more investigation of the account and profile will follow.

Invalid Game Data will be shown until the two companies determine whether the player has violated the EULA at any point.

If that has happened, gamers will have their online interactions restricted, being basically only allowed to interact with other cheaters, and the "You Have Peen Penalized" message will be displayed. On the other hand, if an account is judged to be OK, no further action will be taken, even if the original message might persist during the investigation while the offending file or mod is removed.

From Software and Bandai Namco add, "The team runs customized checks on all players to check for hacks/cheats, items that are obtained before they would normally be available, attributes that are not able to be achieved through normal means, etc. These parameters are constantly being evaluated and optimized."

Dark Souls 3 has a cheating problem

And it seems that, to fix it, the developers are ready to restrict access to all those who have broken the End User License Agreement and will not lift restrictions associated with them, with those who feel they have been wrongfully punished able to engage with customer care to get their situation solved.

From Software and Bandai Namco are also saying they are planning to improve their warning and restriction process over time.

The two companies launched a new big update for Dark Souls 3 earlier in the week, introducing some more balance tweaks while eliminating some issues, although fans are still complaining about frame rate issues on home consoles and performance on the PC.

The development team at From Software has announced that it will continue to offer support for the title and that a first big piece of downloadable content will be introduced in the fall, with a second one scheduled for 2017.

The company is also working on new intellectual property, some of which might be announced before year's end.
