Apparently, finding a new guy for the job won’t be easy

In May this year, Hugh Jackman officially confirmed that 2017 would bring his last outing as Wolverine, with the sequel to “The Wolverine.” When that happens, he will have played the famous character for 17 whole years, and Fox will be left scrambling for a replacement.

Lucky for them that Conan O’Brien is thinking ahead of time. He did some digging around and came up with an audition tape for Wolverine for when Jackman is out. You can see it below, but be advised that it might not be what you expect.

Apparently, replacing Jackman will be a seriously difficult feat because you can’t be Wolverine by simply doing your hair differently (or wearing a wig) and sporting the famous claws.

Betty White might do a more convincing job because she has the same Adamantium skeleton as Wolverine, but then there’s the problem that she’s a woman and looks like a good fairy or fairy-tale grandma.

On a more serious note, yes, when Jackman is done with the part, Fox will have trouble replacing him and not just because of the looks. All these years, through his dedication to looking the part and to promoting each and every project, Jackman made the character his.

Rumor has it that Fox is thinking of retiring it altogether, so as to avoid bringing someone else to fill in Jackman’s shoes, and maybe this wouldn’t be such a bad idea after all.
