Director says some sort of conflict will certainly appear between the two superheroes

With all the rumors pouring in about the 2015 sequel to “Man of Steel,” tentatively called “Batman vs. Superman,” director Zack Snyder has been staying surprisingly mum on the topic. He broke his silence just hours ago, during a Yahoo! live event meant to promote the Blu-ray release of his first Superman film.

You can see the entire event embedded in the video below but, before you skim through 1.14 hours of video, we’ll just say this: Snyder does talk about the insanely anticipated sequel and the very likely conflict Superman will have with Batman.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t say a thing about the possibility of having Wonder Woman or even Robin by Batman’s side, to help him face such an undefeatable here like Superman. Warner Bros. has already announced that Batman (played by Ben Affleck) will be “tired and weary” in this film, so he’ll probably need all the help he can get.

Snyder did say this though: “The fun of the idea is to be able to play with that relationship. Whether they fight and become friends, or whether they're friends and they fight… Of course, some physical conflicts [will be involved].”

The event was hosted by movie director and major Superman fan Kevin Smith, who asked his own questions but also took some from other fans on social media.

One of them referred to Snyder’s intention of taking the story back to the town of Plano, Illinois, which doubled as Smallville in “Man of Steel.” “I can't say… Uh… I can't say. … [My wife and producer] Deb would kill me,” Snyder answered.

He also addressed the scene at the end of “Man of Steel,” in which Superman kills General Zod (Michael Shannon), dropping hints that fans who were upset by it would probably be vindicated in the sequel. For the record, Superman has killed before in the comics, but never in film, and many fans thought that this particular scene went against everything Superman stood for.

“Maybe we'll see the repercussions of that in the next film. Maybe,” Snyder said.

“Batman vs. Superman” stars Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, and Amy Adams. Olga Kurylenko is rumored to be in talks for Wonder Woman.
