One of the latest applications available for BlackBerry smartphones from Canadian handset vendor RIM is the Yonhap News app. Downloadable via the BlackBerry App World, the new software solution is meant to offer users the possibility to stay up to date with news from Yonhap News Agency, straight from their BlackBerry smartphones. The new solution can be used on the BlackBerry Bold 9000 and BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphones from SK Telecom.

The new application has been made available for users as a free download. With Yonhap News, BlackBerry users can access real-time Korean and international news, including breaking news and feature articles, all of which are delivered automatically to them as soon as they are published on the newswire. According to the company, users would receive notifications on their devices as soon as news is updated, so they won't have to specifically search for articles.

“We have seen substantial demand for accessing real-time news on BlackBerry smartphones in Korea,” said Chang Hoi Kim, senior director, International Team at Yonhap News Agency. “News from Yonhap News is regarded as the leading news source in South Korea, the BlackBerry application will provide users with fast and reliable news information on the go.”

According to Norm Lo, vice president of Asia Pacific, Research In Motion, the new Yonhap News application is meant to offer a rich mobile experience to BlackBerry smartphone users out there, especially since it is based on the push capabilities the platform comes with. Through the new software solution, users would easily receive up-to-date information straight to their handset's home screen.

As the provider of BlackBerry smartphones and services in South Korea, Soon Hyung Kim, vice president, Solution Business Division at SK Telecom commented, “Customers are looking for applications that deliver localized content. The new Yonhap News application meets this demand and we are delighted to support the Yonhap News Agency and RIM with the launch of the very first local news application in Korea.”
