The Android-based smartphone was listed as available for pre-order for Rs. 28,999 over at Flipkart, though an official release date for it lacks at the moment.

However, the retailer notes on its website that the high-end smartphone is expected to hit the shelves in the second week of April.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc arrives in India all dressed up in Black, and sports a 1 Year Sony Ericsson India Warranty and Free Transit.

The new device was officially introduced in early January 2011 during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and was only the first smartphone the mobile phone maker unveiled for its Xperia line for the ongoing year.

Running under Google's Android 2.3 operating system, the handset boasts a 4.2 inches touchscreen display that boasts a 854 x 480 pixels (FWVGA) resolution.

The specifications list of this handset also includes a 1 GHz Qualcomm application processor, 512 MB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot with support for card of up to 32GB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, 3.5 mm audio jack, as well as DLNA and HDMI.

The mobile phone also comes with an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper (Exmor R for mobile CMOS sensor) with HD 720p video recording capabilities, and GPS receiver.

Since it runs Android, the handset would offer support for a wide range of Google Mobile Services, as well as for applications available for download via the Android Market.
