Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play, the first smartphone in the world to arrive with PlayStation certification, is now listed as available for pre-order in the UK. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread-based smartphone is listed at two online retailers in the country as on pre-order status, namely at mobiles.co.uk and play.com.

Moreover, both retailers note on their websites that the handset should be in stock on March 28th, which means that users might be able to get their units in about one month from now.

We should also note the mobile phone is sold SIM Free and unlocked via Play.com, with a price tag of £519.99 attached to it, and that mobiles.co.uk has in store various contract deals for it.

The contract deals on this device offer users the possibility to purchase it for free on Vodafone Your Plan 600 (24 months) for £30 a month, or on Orange Dolphin 30 (24 months), for £30.64 a month.

However, these are not the only monthly options that users can choose from, and a quick look on the Xperia Play product page at mobiles.co.uk will unveil more details on the matter.

“The Xperia Play is a touchscreen smartphone that runs on Android 2.3 (or Gingerbread), the latest version of Google's popular mobile operating system,” the retailer explains.

Indeed, the smartphone comes with enhanced gaming capabilities, among which we can count the inclusion of a sliding game pad, in addition to the touchscreen display Sony Ericsson packed it with.

“Boasting a vivid touchscreen display and smooth curved lines, the Xperia Play has an ace up its sleeve in the form of dedicated gaming controls that slide out to reveal the familiar PlayStation keys and D-Pad,” the online retailer continues.

“With PlayStation Certified gaming, download games from the Android Market app store and play with friends across the globe with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity.”

There's no telling on whether the release date for this handset would pan out, or the price tag would remain the same, so stay tuned to learn more info on this.
