Starting with August 1st, the owners of Xperia devices from Sony Ericsson will be offered the possibility to enjoy a new service on their devices, the video service from Qriocity.

Through this service, users will be offered the possibility to buy or rent movies and TV shows from labels like NBC, Universal International Television Distribution, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.

“If you love movies as much as us, we expect you will be excited to hear about the upcoming phased launch of the video service for Xperia phones starting on August 1st,” Sony Ericsson's Mattias Holm explains in a recent blog post.

Moreover, the service will also deliver shows and movies from a series of local studios, Sony Ericsson announced. In addition to an extensive catalog of older shows, users will also be able to enjoy all the latest releases from these labels.

“The service complements our recently announced cloud based digital music service Music Unlimited,” the said blog post continues.

In the beginning, the new service will become available for Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro devices in a number of nine markets, with localization of content and movies: UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, Japan, Canada and the United States.

However, later during the ongoing year, the mobile version of this video service is expected to become available for all Xperia devices that Sony Ericsson announced during the ongoing year.

The Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia PLAY, Xperia pro, and Xperia acro smartphones will receive the service via a software update. Xperia active and Xperia ray smartphones will have the service loaded on them when they launch.

“The video service will automatically appear on Xperia smartphones which have been upgraded with this software and users will also be able to download the video service application from Android Market,” Sony Ericsson continued.
