However, an explanation for the grey Xbox 360 seen yesterday is still in order

It seems that although Sony and Microsoft banked on the US and Japan for big-time sales with their systems, Europe proved this year to be a worthy "customer" in terms of games and consoles. Both manufacturers have now turned their heads towards Europe with their high end (so to speak) versions of Xbox 360 and PS3. According to a well-known gaming site, Microsoft has confirmed a release date for the Elite in Europe.

Originally posted by Yougamers.com: "Microsoft have finally confirmed the release date for all those in Europe that are holding out for an Elite. Not much to say apart from a date; the machine is slated to land on August 24th. Still no confirmed Australian release date..."

And... that's it. Given that Sony is slashing prices on its systems and is even introducing the 80GB model pretty much everywhere, Microsoft can't just sit there and do nothing. The thing is, introducing the Xbox 360 Elite in Europe is a mere first step in trying to keep up with Sony in terms of offering an affordable gaming system.

Although rumors of an Xbox 360 price drop have been hammered down by Microsoft several times, that doesn't mean that the systems won't see a price reduction soon. Microsoft's policy of not commenting on rumors is well known among gaming sites and if we're to go by this aspect alone... we can expect them to announce a price cut for the system as soon as tomorrow (given that the E3 is still on for another couple of days).

However, I haven't managed to find anything on that grey Xbox 360. Was it a mugged shot, or are we really in for a surprise on behalf of Microsoft? Introducing a new, cheaper system (as it was hinted) wouldn't exactly make sense, while keeping the same price even on the Core Xbox 360; so and explanation is really needed here. Oh well, we'll be sure to post everything as soon as any detail "hits" our ears.
