14 DAY TRIAL // Demibooks Composer, a new iOS application now available from the iTunes App Store, is the first iPad-based authoring software for creating interactive/enhanced books.
Founded in 2010, Demibooks, Inc. offers software and service solutions ideal for publishers, authors and illustrators for authoring interactive book apps.
These books are also referred to as ‘enhanced’ books, as they come with sound, video, and sometimes even games.
The Chicago-based digital publishing technologies company says that if you’re an author, illustrator, designer or publisher, and you’ve got a story to tell, then this app is for you.
The platform is to be used to create children's interactive book apps, say the developers.
They’ve thrown in tools to implement realistic physics, animation, sounds and visual effects, and a way to publish the book app back to the App Store.
Best of all, the tools allow authors to leverage Multi-Touch and bring their ideas to life via interactive content, without any programming.
Kira Lynn, Publisher of Kane Miller Books, a division of EDC Publishing, said: "Composer's rich feature- set allowed us to focus entirely on the creative development process and seamlessly integrate many unique interactive features into the book quickly and easily without having to write a single line of code."
John Mark Green, author and illustrator of Steampunk Chess Puzzles, a forthcoming book app, added: "Composer leverages the unique qualities of the iPad, while giving authors powerful tools to create amazing reading experiences. Demibooks Composer is a free download, but only for a limited time period, according to the makers.
Starting at $499, the Demibooks PrintShop service will provide authors with the ability to publish their books as apps. You can watch a video demonstration of Composer below.
The app is only compatible with iPads and requires iOS 3.2 or later.
