With Glupod you can

I am sure none of our readers would ever say "No" to the opportunity of saving a life, especially now, when playing games is involved. Still, this concept is not brand new, even though such initiatives are always welcomed. The game, which is still under development, will be called Glupod and it will be a casual game as its core.

As we said, this concept is not brand new - some torrent sites used a kind of ad-supported feature to "save lives" (I must admit that I always had doubts regarding this, but that's what they said they were doing) and some still have them. With Glupod everything will be taken to the next level and you won't have to click ads, but have fun instead.

For example, you will be able to choose from a real-world cause and take it in the game - you will choose from tasks such as providing food for starving children in Africa, protecting a whale species that's going extinct or fight against the global warming. Doing so, you will earn in-game money that can be turned into real winnings that will help the fight for the cause of your choice. And this is great for two reasons: first, you are doing some good deeds and, second, you will slap hard all those MMOs that have no idea how to make you spend money in the game, but just put them in the devs pocket.

"A Glupod gamer has a real purpose and a human mission," says Ioannis, managing director of co-founder of Something Inc. "Glupod is more than a game. It's a simple, fun way to do good that anyone with a computer and access to the Internet can participate in."

"Being a casual game at its core, Glupod is a simple and emotional online experience that both children and adults can enjoy in their free time," says George Rokas, an angel investor in something Inc. "Glupod fosters human fulfillment by enabling players to make substantial difference in the world in small chunks of time. Giving back has never been so much fun."

Another interesting thing about this game is its development team: people from three continents are working for the development of this online game - from Greece, India, the United States and the United Kingdom. The game will debut worldwide on the 30th May 2008.
