Unveiled by Samsung SDI

We are all already acquainted with Samsung's way of doing things. We all know how they name their products: "world's thinnest", "world's smallest" and other monikers like those. This time they did it once again by unveiling a new mobile phone LCD panel that, according to what they have declared, is the "world's thinnest" liquid crystal display to date.

I'm not denying they are most probably right but I'm quite tired of hearing them how they beat their old records. I know they are capable of it, you are also probably aware of that so they should leave the "thinest, smallest" tagging job to other people that might eventually be amazed of Samsung's hyper-super-mega-capable team of engineers.

Returning to the main subject of this article and putting an end to this rant, for now, the above mentioned LCD panel is only 0.74 millimeters thick (ya, thick :) ), a number that beats "by far" their own thinnest mobile phone LCD panel record of 0.79 millimeters.

"We have secured the industry's leading technologies for both slimmest product development and mass production...We will be able to actively respond to the fast growing slim mobile display market," said Kim Kee-Doo, the vice-president of mobile display development engineering team.

The conclusion is that they plan to start mass producing the new 1.29 modules in 2007's second quarter, this way putting an end to the 1.7 mm line of panels.

As you may guess, until the new type of LCD panels will get into production, Samsung SDI's mobile display development team will already have another "world's thinnest" liquid crystal display on their hands ready for display.

They are probably annoying everybody a bit with their attitude of being the best but we have to hand it to them and recognize their merits: because of them (and others of their kind) mobile phones have become what they are today and have not remained the communication bricks they were in the beginning.
