Microsoft to let us take a look at the future

It seems that Microsoft has recently come up with a video of a yet unreleased version of its Windows Mobile operating system. Supposedly, the video, which we need to mention that comes from the Microsoft Strategy under the title “Software + Services,” shows the user interface of the platform, and the centered Windows Start flag that can be seen there suggests that we're looking at the Windows Mobile 7 OS.

Although the Windows Mobile platform that can be seen in the video is yet to come to the market, the handsets it has been used on are already known to the public. And said handsets are the HTC Touch Pro, HTC Touch HD and the T-Mobile Dash. The three phones are also reported to be development devices at Microsoft, especially for the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, though it seems that the company has also considered using them as testbeds for WM 7. The video below also shows a fourth handset running under Windows Mobile 7, namely the Xperia X1.

The IM application that is demonstrated in the video is one of the main features of the next-generation mobile platform. In addition, the media player included in the platform resembles a lot the one that was previously spotted in some of the Windows Mobile 7 screenshots that made it into the wild recently. The Twist interface on top of the screen would make one think about the WinMo 7 Zune interface recently spotted.

One new thing that the video seems to show is the Windows Mobile Standard interface. And while the screens that can be seen running on different existing Windows Mobile hardware designs could be simple mock-ups, it is rather interesting to have a look at what Microsoft is preparing to offer its users as soon as next year. Take a look at what the video shows and see what's new in the future mobile platform.
