Cooked ROMs available for a series of phones

The series of new Windows Mobile 6.5 builds that make it into the wild these days continues. We already saw a few other builds available for download on the Internet, and now we learn that Windows Mobile 6.5 Build 23409 has got the same treatment. Compared to the previous leaks, the new build is reportedly coming around with a few stability improvements, as well as with some reliability fixes, though it sports the same visual appearance.

Along with the news about the new leaked Windows Mobile 6.5 Build 23409, the guys over at Redmond Pie also published a series of screenshots with it, so that users can make an idea on how it looks like. Moreover, it seems that there is also a series of cooked ROMs available, and they should fit great with the following handsets: HTC Touch Diamond2, HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch Pro, HTC Touch Pro2, HTC Kaiser, HTC Touch, XPERIA X1, Samsung Omnia i900, and O2 XDA Atom Exec.

While there are no Windows phones available on the market at the moment, it should be noted that a series of phone makers already announced that some of their Windows Mobile 6.1-based handsets would receive an official update to the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 flavor of the operating system. Not all of them have cooked Windows Mobile 6.5 Build 23409 ROMs available for them, yet the official update is only about one month away.

It should also be noted that the latest leaked WM6.5 builds have nothing in common with the official flavor of the platform. As Redmond Pie notes, “the Builds in the 23XXX branch have nothing to do with the first Windows Mobile 6.5 powered phones set to launch in October. The version that will be launched on those phones are from 21XXX branch which were compiled last month. The Builds in 23XXX branch are perhaps more looking like a part of Windows Mobile 6.5.1 release.”

This means that even Windows phone users will get a totally different experience in case they plan on trying one of these leaks. At the same time, we should probably be looking forward to seeing an update for WM6.5 being unleashed from Redmond's gates, a future iteration of the OS that might be based on these builds. Until more details become available, take a look at the screenshots below to make an idea of what Windows Mobile might look like in the future.
