Some users cannot download the new Windows 10 build

Microsoft released the new Windows 10 for phones preview build today, but it turns out that many users cannot download it due to a problem experienced by the company at the very last minute.

Right now, it appears that this issue is only affecting phones that weren't running Windows 10 for phones preview already, so in case your device is now on Windows Phone 8.1, chances are that you're getting an error reading the following message:

“Server error. A connection error prevented us from downloading programs for you. Please check the date/time of your device and its network connection and try again.”

Fix coming in 2 hours

Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, said on Twitter that the team is already working to address the problem, while in an update on the Windows blog he explained fixing it would take approximately 2 hours.

“We discovered this morning that there was an error in the database for provisioning record data, which is required for new phones to join the Fast Ring through the Windows Insider app,” Aul said.

“The team has been working to correct it but the load on the provisioning data servers has made all operations extremely slow. To fix the issue, we are taking the service offline and updating the provisioning record data for all 5100 phone POPs. It will take approximately 2 hours for us to make the update, and validate that everything is working. “

Right now, only a few users can download the new preview and Microsoft says that those who are on Windows 10 for phones preview already should switch to the fast ring to get it as well. Otherwise, they would receive the very same error as everyone else.
