Microsoft hints that the preview build is on its way

Microsoft announced that Windows 10 for phones preview would ship in February, but the company has recently said that it's still conducting internal testing and more time is needed to bring the early builds of the new mobile OS to users.

And yet, it turns out that the preview could launch as soon as next week, according to some information posted on Twitter by Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program.

Aul has explained that Microsoft could release a new Windows 10 for phones preview video later this week and then has suggested that this clip might actually be launched with the downloadable version of the operating system in order to provide users with a chance to watch and try out the new features.

"Maybe we're going to release the video along with the build," Aul has posted, suggesting that a release is very likely to take place this week.

In the last few months, Microsoft used Wednesday as the launch day of several Windows 10 builds for PCs, so maybe the company could ship the phone preview tomorrow as well.

Available via Insider app

The new Windows 10 for phones preview will be released to users via a new Windows Insider app that can already be downloaded from the store right now. And yet, all of its features are currently locked, so they cannot be used for the moment, as Microsoft is likely to make everything available to users when the first preview build is up for grabs.

Windows 10 for phones preview is expected to be released only to a few Windows Phone models at first, as the company says that it will gradually make the testing bits of the new operating system available to more devices as it completes development of more features.

Lumia devices with 512 MB of RAM will also get the preview, but only few features will actually be available, as their limited hardware capabilities make it impossible to benefit from the whole Windows 10 experience.
