In order to avoid losing MMS messages, enable cellular data

Microsoft finally released the third technical preview build of Windows 10 Mobile, and along many of the new features and improvements included, there are quite a lot of known issues present as well.

The good news is that Microsoft is aware of these issues and will probably offer fixes in future Windows 10 Mobile build. Until then though, Windows Insiders may want to know that that there's a major issue in build 10080 that affects MMS messages.

Along with the announcement of Windows 10 Mobile build 10080 release, Microsoft warns Windows Insiders that there is a condition in which users may never receive MMS messages.

According to the Redmond-based company, the issue appears when someone sends you an MMS message and the phone's cellular data connection is turned off, they will receive a “Get message” link in the text thread from the sender, thus allowing you to download the message once the cellular data is enabled.

Do not turn off cellular data connection

Unfortunately, there seems to be a bug in which the link provided does not work and the MMS message is lost forever. In order to avoid losing MMS messages, users should turn cellular data on by going to Settings / Network & wireless / Cellular & SIM / Data connection.

It looks like the issue will only occur any time those who install Windows 10 Mobile build 10080 have their cellular data connection turned off.

While losing MMS message sounds like a major bug, the fact that it only appears when the cellular data is disabled is quite a relief because most Windows Insiders usually leave it turned on.

We expect this issue to be fixed in the next Windows 10 Mobile technical preview build, but even if it's not, it shouldn't be such a big deal since it only occurs in certain circumstances.
