Redmond-based Microsoft is reported to be on track with the development of its future iterations of the Windows Mobile operating system, including both the WinMo 6.5 platform, which has been reported recently to be fully developed, as well as the next-generation Windows Mobile 7, which will make its debut into the wild only next year.

As we reported back in February, the upcoming WinMo 7 operating system is expected to come on devices as soon as April 2010, and it seems that a recent presentation on Microsoft's mobile platform has confirmed what we were already suspecting. In addition, the presentation also says that the OS is expected to become available for manufacturers as soon as November this year. One more detail that has been unveiled in regard to the upcoming Windows Mobile 7 is the fact that it should also sport FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air) features, something that was also rumored a while ago.

Said presentation unveiled some more details on the Windows Mobile 6.5 platform as well, including the fact that it should already ship to manufacturers starting April 2009 (which is backed up by the development team's assertion that the OS is completed, and also explains how the first phone running under it has already surfaced into the wild). Moreover, the first devices to include it are expected to come to the market as soon as November this year (which is rather disappointing, we might add, as they were expected to surface during the third quarter).

In additional news we learn that, at a recent Windows Mobile presentation at the Webdu conference in Sydney, Australia, the Redmond company suggested that the Windows Marketplace for Mobile was expected to go live sometime in November, and a Twitter post recently spotted suggests the same, which means that both the application portal and the Windows Mobile 6.5 (the former seems to be unable to live without the latter) are very likely to come to the market in November, and not sooner, though Microsoft has recently launched the MyPhone service and our hopes were high.
