One of the interesting tidbits that came down the pipe today is connected to the upcoming Windows Mobile releases. We are all waiting to see what the Redmond company has in store for us with the future Windows Mobile 6.5 OS, not to mention that the next-generation platform that is supposed to be the Windows Mobile 7 should bring even more goodies, yet it seems that another version is to be released in between these two variants.

As many of you might already know, in the third quarter of the ongoing year Microsoft intends to come to the market with a new version of its mobile platform, namely the Windows Mobile 6.5, which is expected to be a great update over the currently available 6.1 version of the OS. Yet it seems that the company won't be able to make all the necessary updates to the platform so as to turn it into the user-friendly OS everybody hopes it will be.

Given this state of facts, says wmpoweruser, we'll be able to see another Windows Mobile 6.x operating system released into the wild before the Windows Mobile 7 will come our way next year. In addition, it seems that the 6.x version that will come before WM 7 is to include a wide range of important updates Microsoft should have put into 6.5. On the other hand, we might see the Redmond company release only some sort of service packs to the Windows Mobile 6.5 and not an entirely new version of the platform.

Given the success of FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) trials, the Windows Mobile team is said to have gained some confidence that it would be able to push out updates faster to the mobile phone users, and that will probably come into practice after the release of Windows Mobile 6.5. One thing is for sure here, namely that users would receive an enhanced experience from their platform, and that is something that would help the OS see more traction on the market.
