And Nintendo isn't doing anything about it

It's well known that Nintendo's Wii owners have some serious issues to face when it comes to downloadable content. One of them is storage space. Mighty Nintendo has been making classics available through Virtual Console for quite some time now (there are currently 100 titles waiting to be downloaded for the necessary Wii Points), but never have they thought of hitting gamers with some proper storage units. Well, except the HD cards that is...

With SD memory cards, Wii gamers can do pretty much the same thing as other console users and that is save their gameplay progress. As a presently uncircumvented system of digital rights management, Virtual Console data cannot be restored to any system except for the unit of origin, Wikipedia says. To use the SD slot for game save transferring, a software update must also be downloaded, so a system that has not been connected to the Internet cannot utilize this feature.

So what should Nintendo do? Clearly another HDD enabled Wii isn't in order, otherwise we would have heard something. Spacier memory cards perhaps? They'd have done that too, a long time ago, if they thought it was an option. No, everything leads to another system. That's just how it is. They didn't think you'd love the classics so much... Actually, it's your fault that all this is happening! Kidding of course, but Wii gamers aren't laughing, I'm sure.

Just so you know, the issue was seriously taken into consideration for the first time when The Seattle PI Blog talked about how the blogger downloaded Link II and ran out of space on his Wii, GamingToday reports. Imagine not having enough space for your favorite titles and a lousy savegame or two. It's outrageous! Of course, this is a problem for gamers who like to play more than 10 games or so. For those who are satisfied with 3 or 4 titles that don't do the same thing over and over again, it's not such an issue. I mean come on, 2 gigs is not exactly trash.

With all the fame and the glory the Wii's had so far, it'll fall quite heavy. Nintendo never designed it for storage, but just for fun addictive games such as Wii Sports. I'd say everything came up the way they planned it from the beginning, but they can't expect it to sell anymore, now that practically every console will have a hard drive unit. So unless Nintendo doesn't come up with a spacier memory card, manage your files thoughtfully.
