Bridging the gap

Day after day, Nintendo Wii world gets larger and larger. The wireless console has gained its place in many homes with little effort as the price, attractive looks and the no-string joysticks it comes with are an offer to which you can hardly say no.

Not until recently, the Wii console was a bit limited when it came to entertaining your family as all it could do was offer the pleasure of gaming. But X-OOM Software expanded its capabilities by releasing a software able to make DVDs Wii-compatible.

This time, they stretch the limit and come out with a new software release that'll turn Nintendo Wii into a genuine Media Center. X-OOM Media Center is not due to public use until late October this year, at a petty price as they state in the press release that the cost will be of ?29.99.

X-OOM Media Center is designed to connect the Wii console to your computer through a WLAN or LAN link allowing full access to media files on the PC. By 'media', the developer refers to photos (JPG and BMP), music (MP3, WMA, and OGG) and video (DivX, XviD, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and WMV).

By using X-OOM Media Center, the user will eliminate the need for cables, memory cards or discs as the application relies entirely on Wii's built-in Wi-Fi connection. More than this, the media will be perfectly accessible with Nintendo's wireless remote controls.

Regardless of the position of the computer and the Wii console in the house, the two devices can communicate via WLAN or LAN with no additional hardware required. Nintendo Wii's wireless joysticks will also be perfectly capable of functioning as remote controls for the new Media Center.

In just a few words, with X-OOM Media Center ?29.99 solution, you will be able to view movies, listen to music, enjoy pictures as well as have access to more than 1000 TV channels and radio stations, all on the living room Wii console.

However, despite all the good news, you will still need X-OOM Movies on Wii and a memory card to be able to watch DVDs on Wii console. But it seems that things are taking the right turn with Media Center and I am sure that this is just a matter of time.
